Ministry of Cooperation to give impetus to the growth of the sector


New Delhi: To stimulate the growth of cooperatives, a two-day conference of state cooperation ministers was organized by the Ministry of Cooperation in the nation’s capital on September 8-9.

At the conference, representatives from 21 states and two union territories, central government officials were present.

“Deliberations were held on various important topics including – National Cooperation Policy, National Cooperatives Database, Proposed New Schemes of Ministry of Cooperation i.e. PACS in each panchayat, export of agro- food and others, promotion and marketing of organic products, expansion of cooperatives into new areas,” the ministry said in a statement.

“In addition, topics related to PACS and model statutes, including computerization of PACS, action plan for the revitalization of old PACS, model statute of PACS were also discussed, as well as related issues to primary cooperative societies regarding the prioritization of long-term financing, milk cooperative societies and fisheries cooperative societies, etc.,” he said.

The Ministry of Cooperation was established on July 6, 2021 and is headed by Union Minister Amit Shah

NCDC being a leader in cooperative finance, knowledgeable about prospects and lending opportunities to the cooperative sector, with facilitation through its regional branches across the states.

Gyanesh Kumar, Secretary of the Ministry of Cooperation, urged states to adopt the state-of-the-art software as well as up-to-date hardware under the PACS informatization project.

The ministry facilitates the registration of a co-operative export house at the national level under the MSCS Act 2002, which will work in close coordination with the Union Ministry of External Affairs and the Union Ministry of Commerce to exploit the export potential of nearly 30 million people associated with the cooperative movement.
