The Ministry of Lands wins the 2020 United Nations Civil Service Award


The Ministry of Lands received the United Nations Public Service Award-2020, on behalf of their respective ministry, Minister of Lands Saifuzzaman Chowdhury received the award.

The Land Ministry is the first organization in Bangladesh to receive the United Nations Civil Service Award, a press release said.

Lands Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury received the award at the United Nations Civil Service Awards ceremony jointly hosted by the United Arab Emirates and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs at the Madinat Jumeirah Conference Center on Monday in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Land Secretary Md Mustafizur Rahman, PAA was present at the event. The United Nations Prize is a combined achievement of the country and the nation under the leadership of the Prime Minister.

The e-Mutation system was implemented as part of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s “Digital Bangladesh” special initiative, the Land Minister noted after receiving the award.

Saifuzzaman Chowdhury added, “The United Nations Public Service Award will encourage Bangladesh to carry out its initiative to automate the entire land management system more vigorously.

e-Mutation plays an important role in providing a simple and efficient service to beneficiaries of land services, advancing towards greater inclusion of women and people with disabilities in land management, implementing the Sustainable Development Goals in Bangladesh and by implementing Vision 2041 adopted by the Prime Minister. Sheikh Hasina, added the statement.

The awards ceremony is part of the United Nations Forum on Public Service, a three-day event organized under the theme “Innovating the Public Service of the Future: New Models of Government for a New Era to Achieve the sustainable development goals ”from December 13th to 15th of this year.

UAE Cabinet Affairs Minister Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, State Minister for Government Development and in the future Ohood Bint Khalfan Al Roumi, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance Catherine Pollard of Guyana, and world leaders, ministers, senior officials, representatives of civil society, academics, the private sector, representatives of international and regional organizations and award winners attended at the ceremony.

The United Nations officially announced the winners of the 2020 United Nations Civil Service Award on June 16, 2020.

The Land Ministry won the prestigious “United Nations Civil Service Award-2020 in the” Developing Transparent and Accountable Public Institutions “category, the statement added.

United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Liu Zhenmin congratulated the winning countries, including Bangladesh, for winning the “2020 United Nations Civil Service Award” on June 23, 2020 at the United Nations Civil Service Day virtual event.

The ‘United Nations Civil Service Forum’ and ‘Public Service Awards Ceremony’ was due to be held in Busan, South Korea in 2020, but has been postponed by the United Nations following the pandemic global Covid-19.

The United Nations simultaneously hosted the 2020 and 2021 United Nations Civil Service Awards Ceremony in Dubai. The prize was awarded to 17 initiatives from 15 countries for these two years.
