U.S. Consulate General Welcomes Cybersecurity Professionals

The The United States Commercial Service hosted a seminar on Thursday attended by Consul General Will Stevens, which connected cybersecurity professionals from Nigeria’s banking, telecom and fintech sectors with services and opportunities. offered by the American software company SAS.

In his opening remarks, Consul General Stevens emphasized the importance of increasing U.S.-Nigeria collaboration on cybersecurity to help secure the digital economy now and in the future.

“Financial institutions are leading the technical revolution taking place in Nigeria. While they are to reap the benefits of this essential transition, they also have a responsibility to ensure that the financial system of tomorrow remains stable, reliable and safe for consumers and institutions,” said Consul General Stevens.

He also explained that partnerships with American companies like SAS are beneficial to the economies of both countries and will lead to diversifying and expanding the cybersecurity related options available in Nigeria.

“The U.S. Mission in Nigeria looks forward to working with the U.S. and Nigerian business community in the years to come to continue advancing much-needed digital transformation,” Consul General Stevens added.

In his presentation, Stephen Wessels, Head of Customer Advisory at SAS South Africa, discussed the role of analytics in protecting and securing the financial services industry.

“SAS’ advanced analytics help manage increasing regulatory demands, stop fraud in its tracks, and maximize return on capital,” Wessels said.

US Commercial Service is the trade promotion arm of the US Department of Commerce based in Lagos.

The US Trade Service facilitates connections between Nigerian and US products, services and partners. Additionally, the US Commercial Service supports US companies coming to trade shows in Nigeria, as well as helping to send Nigerian delegations to US trade shows.
